The Nubble Lighthouse - Cape Neddick
Iconic Lighthouse in York, Maine
The Nubble Lighthouse, officially known as Cape Neddick Light, stands on a small rocky island just off the coast of York, Maine. It marks the eastern edge of Cape Neddick, a promontory extending into the Gulf of Maine. The lighthouse was first lit in 1879 and continues to serve as a navigational aid near the entrance to the Gulf’s southern approach. Located just north of the York River estuary and south of Mount Agamenticus, the site provides a clear view of the surrounding Atlantic coastline. Its location near the convergence of tidal currents and coastal headlands has made it a strategic point for maritime traffic in southern Maine. The lighthouse and adjacent Sohier Park are accessible year-round for viewing and photography, although the island itself is not open to the public.
